DC accepted to JHU pre-med but waitlisted at Case Western. Not mad. Understood why Case Western had to do what it did. If I work at their admissions office, I'd do the same, making waitlisted applicants jump through a bunch of hoops before extending them offers.

It’s not a game, your kid got into two great schools. S/he isn’t owed anything. Now if that was top choice, that sucks, but at least s/he has good options. Instead of fueling negativity, maybe you should focus on the positives here.

DD applied TO to Case and her waitlist letter (after initially being deferred) said the school anticipates a lot of movement on the wait list. I kind of read it like there may eventually be a spot for a lot of students. She did not get a chance to visit Case but did several virtual sessions just to make sure it was a fit for biology major. Accepted TO at Holy Cross, submitted testing to Purdue OOS, Pitt OOS; waitlisted at Virginia Tech OOS for context.

DC was accepted to all of their reaches except one and waitlisted at their two targets. I’m assuming it was yield. They did get into their safeties but not on table due to reach acceptances.

Yield. Protection. Case is known for it. Who cares? Go to Mich or CMU, pick for fit. Those are far better schools than case.

Some people have this idea that the world should “make sense” or “be fair.” And even if they’ve accepted that the world at large is unfair and irrational, they often persist in holding educational institutions to a higher standard. But they aren’t. College admissions are unfair and irrational, and getting accepted or rejected at any school, or at all schools, means less than nothing.
