Of course it isn't only stats. For starters, they require and read the personal statement (unlike Alabama and Clemson). And the activities. And the recommendations (unlike Penn State). And so on.

To be fair, the student sounded like they had a lot of activities and was well-rounded.

If you are using Naviance to figure out GPA remember that it shows final senior GPA not junior year. So you cannot go by those GPA numbers in Naviance for college admissions, not really. Senior year GPA is usually higher bc seniors are taking more weighted classes. So, a 4.45 is a great junior GPA that, barring senioritus, will bump even higher by graduation.

Some schools go overboard on the essays, but at a minimum a "why us?" essay seems like a good idea, if only to get a better sense of who is likely to actually accept the offer.

My kid applied because of no supplementals. His counselor recommended he apply RD to show another semester of grades (he had a rough second semester freshman year ending with a C in History and B- in Latin) but has had straight As since. He only took two years of Latin in HS.

3.85 uw (private), 7 APs, 1550 SAT. In state. Applied to SEAS and was accepted. We are very surprised.
