People don't like the "tone" of New Yorkers or that they can kind of just go about their business without a big smile and a "HI!!" Passing everyone they see on the sidewalk. But I read a study once that they were like, wildly more likely to hold doors, stop to help up someone who had fallen, pull over to offer car assistance, help out a stray pet, give to a neighbor in need, volunteer to provide directions to a visitor, etc than basically anyone else in the US. It was attributed to a more "collectivist" mindset.
