If you had to choose between Villanova and Bucknell ceteris paribus which would you pick?

Apparently between the Pope and the basketball allure they got the highest number of applicants ever this year. We visited with our junior and absolutely loved it - it has a lot to offer. But will be a reach for her for sure!

Rich is a relative term. Villanova not get old line families that send their kids to the Ivies or Williams/Amherst. Nova underperforns at elite Jesuit high schools like Regis and Georgetown Prep. BC and HC do much better at those schools. It is not a factor at Phillips Andover/Exeter, Choate etc. It’s a nice school but very expensive when the school is poorly ranked.

Not sure, but the school sent out an email this year stating that only 2% of applicants receive merit.

Rich, white conservative school. Great for kids who loved high school and want that close-knit community for another 4 years.

Better than most similarly situated schools because of national name recognition.

Insane price tag.

Locals call it Villa-No-Fun.

Heavily draws from private schools.

Fair enough, but cost discussion was a valid response to OPs question. A lot of people like Villanova, but many question ROI (quite a few kids were accepted in my DD's high school class, but almost all of those who were initially accepted declined due to cost. ). Merit scholarships are rare there and financial aid is not generous.

Villanova is not a powerhouse for pre-med. Georgetown, Holy Cross, and ND would be better. Perhaps the most similar Catholic school is BC 7-10 undergrads in suburban locations.

Villanova is way better than PSU.

Is it worth $70k more than UMD (which is less than 40 k in state)?

Not a big fan of UMD.
