She is pregnant. She knows how long she forgot for. She has to take a test. Mom needs to find resources for medical abortions.

So encourage her to not let a mistake snowball into a big problem. Ignoring the preg & STI concerns along with missing class is not what adults do. It’s scary, but getting tested (& getting on BC) is step one, followed by contacting professors for notes or extensions for any work.

Get her on pill asap. She should use 2 birth control forms, in fact.

I would have a frank conversation with her. She needs to go to cvs and buy a pregnancy test. If she refuses, then you need to confirm her timeline, determine if an OTC test would be definitive, and drive/fly to her to get this done.

Birth control is a necessity, especially if they go to college in the south or a red state. Natural cycles ain't it and isn't reliable.

Pregnancy, from a lifetime health perspective, is the least concern, regardless of outcome: miscarriage, abortion, birth.

STIs can be forever. HSV, HPV (I think most girls are vaccinated, but not all boys), gonorrhea, chlamydia. Women can have silent infections from gonorrhea and chlamydia, which can lead to infertility.

I wish more people talked to their kids about STI.

Pullout method 0% effective for this.

Girls should be prepared if boys are not.

I hope she is not pregnant and that she can take responsibility for protecting herself, and if she can’t, then she waits until she can.

If she is nauseous she is pregnant. Buy a good OTC test and drag her into the bathroom in the morning.
I say this as someone whose IUD failed.

She FORGOT to use protection with someone who isn't even her boyfriend? How do you forget that? Was she drunk? Get her a pregnancy test and an STD test and then talk to her about the stupidity of this decision.

DD (18) got pregnant last semester. As a parent, I thought I had put all the correct precautions in place. She was on the pill, I bought her condoms and plan B when I moved her into her dorm. I'd like her to have an IUD but it's not my body and not my choice.

Planned Parenthood was excellent. I flew out to be with her and the abortion itself was a non event. I wish it had more of lasting impact on her but it didn't. She used the medication at night, went to sleep, and in the morning most of it was done. She bleed for the following week but nothing beyond a heavish period.
