There are names that I don't love personally and aren't my particular taste, but I recognize that they are perfectly normal valid names. Then there are names that I think are ridiculous and don't sound like names at all. Two different lists.

I dislike the name Campbell for a girl. I just don't get it at all. There are so many great names for girls, why Campbell?

You've covered a lot of the ones on my Ick List, and we have the same reasons.

I dislike the name "Rebecca" and have no reason for it at all.

Girls with traditionally boys' names or nicknames.

As far as boys names go, I don't have any particular dislikes. Girls' names are another story. I absolutely cannot stand "flowery" names like Violet or Lily or Daisy.

I have an Alexandra who goes by Alex. Frankly, I had no idea how popular Alexandra/Alexander was, and I even checked the baby names wizard before I named her that. If I'd known I'd run into little Alexes everywhere we went, I probably would have named her something else. Thing is, when you don't have kids, you don't have the same exposure to little kids (and little kids' names) that non-first-time parents do, so you have less idea when something's been overdone. Oh well, I still like her name.

I'm not crazy about the whole "made-up" names trend. I feel like sometimes people are trying too hard to be unique and special and they go too far, which sentences their kid to a lifetime of having to spell their name every single time they say it. Who needs that? Your child should be special because of his/her personality and talents, not because his name is spelled Jaxon instead of Jackson or some other such foolishness.

I'm missing what's mean about this thread. I don't care if anyone dislikes the name I choose for my kid. I've actually seen his name posted as a "dislike" here and it's fine. Not that poster's cup of tea, just like we probably have different tastes and opinions in many areas. Whatevs. But I do like reading about names people don't like.

And what about the nicknames of given names that might be sub-par? The classical "Michael" I think is nice, but I can't stand Mike (known a few jerks over time, by this name, though I realize it's very common).
