In Masssachusetts it's pretty much the "Five P's" relating to a minor consuming alcohol:

1. Presence (minor must be in the presence of parents)

2. Premises (must be on the same premises lawfully occupied/owned by the parents)

3. Permission (must have permission from parents who have knowledge of their minor child consuming alcohol)

4. Parents (you can only decide for your own children, not their friends); and

5. Patrol (you have to be personally active in monitoring everything from start to finish)

The three law enforcement officers I asked said, if the minor was calm and respectful they’d let him or her go, but have them pour the alcohol out. If, though, they came at them with the attitude uninformed parents here have brought to the conversation they’d arrest them.
