They want to distract from Epstein. That tells you how huge the Epstein revelations actually are. And everything else makes sense when you look at it from that lens.

Where has the administration indicated that they have any sort of plan for Iran’s future? Why did they do this in the middle of the Epstein scandal? It’s such an obvious distraction.
The plan for the future rests with the people of that country.

Whats the chance it is sucessful at regime change on a country with 90M, full of mountain, a half a continent away, with a population that has a will to fight, and some tech. superiority.
Our leaders are insane and have a false sense of superiority and power.
+1 (and maybe Jeff can attest that I am not one of the anti-Israel anti-Zionist posters - quite the opposite). Certainly this action raises certain costs for Iran but the idea that we brought the country completely to its knees in a day is just funny if not so sad.
Maybe this is the time to again tell the story about the early 2000s when I met one of the 20-something Bush appointees who was headed to Iraq to work for the state departmen, a Fed Soc type lawyer with zero experience. I asked him what he was going to do in Iraq and he said “advise them on developing the rule of law so they can transition to democracy.” I asked “oh really, how does one do that!” And he said “Well, I will teach them about Marbury v Madison.” Me “….”

The administration is hoping that the Iranian people will seize the initiative and overthrow the remaining elements of the regime. But if that doesn’t happen, they don’t really care. Iran is still militarily neutered for the next few years. Trump & company are fairly smart in recognizing that you don’t have to have boots on the ground and take on nation building in order to remove a country as a threat to he US. Doesn’t necessarily help the local populace, but that’s not of concern to him.

if nothing else, the Iranian appetite and capacity to prop up Palestinian terror proxies will be essentially eliminated, a huge win.
Why do you think this? To me, it will only make it worse.
You think Iran will have resources left after this? They're expending everything they have, and their capacity to rebuild and resupply is being eliminated. They'll have no financial resources left with which to purchase weapons from others. They're done for militarily, industrially, and economically, and consequently their patronage of regional terrorists is at an end. Those groups - Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, have no other patrons waiting in the wings to prop them up. Iranian patronage of those groups is no small factor in what is happening now, along with the need to eliminate the potential of a future nuclear-armed Iran.

He wants bribes from the leaders of the country who control its resources. That's all.

You must be joking.
Right?
It’s almost as if no one posting here has any concept of history or the region. This just a very expensive and misguided distraction from Epstein.
