From my perspective - it's a drama free - well functioning school that goes all in for the students. The only thing I don't like about it is the gym. That's it. Lunch program is amazing, too. Also, there is a farmer's market!

Friends of ours transferred from
Sheridan to Lowell, and they are happier. Similar schools with similar approaches. Lowell has two classes per grade, and Sheridan has one. Depends a on the personalities and how your child gels in a particular class.

Are they still happier? Lowell is going through a tough time right now.

Yes, they are very happy there. As are we.

I know there are a few very angry people, but the bulk of the families I know are quite satisfied.

Poor thing. You've got your head deepest in the sand, sweetheart. Hope that works out for you.

What an awful way to speak to someone, particularly if you are trying to convince them they are wrong about something. From, another Lowell parent who knows not everything is perfect, but has kids who are doing great with wonderful friends and terrific teachers.

Oh, and as far as the "hope that works out for you" comment, if the PP was wearing the shoes of the many who have been excreted through Lowell's butt end, maybe she wouldn't be so happy and satisfied.

Wow. Sounds like the community is better off without people like you.

Typical Lowell cult response ^^

It is possible to have a good experience at Lowell if you as a parent interact only with the teachers and not at all with the administrators. While there are a few more kids (but the numbers are dwindling) the overall experience for most is met with darkness when the support of the administrators are needed. It’s so ugly that if the criterion is a K-8 with two sections, gosh, you could find that at so many other places.

Oh please, spare us your holier than thou nannying. By now everyone on this board knows many of the things that are driving Lowell people up the wall. To hear about some of them and still defend the school in such a blind manner is the definition of having one's head in the sand.

In a small environment leadership that brings people together and fosters appropriate behavior from both kids and their parents is really important. When you have a challenging class of kids (which can happen at any school), having a HOS and faculty that are socially intelligent and know how to build a better classroom culture is essential.

+1. Definitely ensure you reach out to parents of the current rising 4th grade class to get a sense of the class composition/dynamics. Because it's such a small school, having few challenging kids in a class, gets tough very fast.

They sure are. And they brought every bit of it upon themselves.

Sheridan has been outstanding for our child. Continue to be impressed with how a school that size is able to deliver so much. Highly recommend it.

In fact, if your kid didn't need support, they are pretty much on their own. Hardly any supervision and no engagement from staff if there is an issue.

I would recommend highly reaching out to current parents of rising 4th graders to get a sense of the class composition before making a decision.

Are you implying that the rising 4th grade class in particular has issues worth discussing? Or are you just saying that because OP's DC happens to be rising 4th and you generally recommend talking to parents in whatever class year the particular child will be in?
Is/was your child a member of the current rising 4th grade?
