At least one of the APE guys on the math committee doesn’t have kids in APS and writes MAGA propaganda about schools on a RW blog.

His kids are probably in pre-k. Many parents like to get involved before their kids begin at APS.

I'd never heard about Bacon's Rebellion until a PP mentioned it and you shared the link. He's talked about the APS school his kids go to, so I believe his kid are in an APS school.
It appears they are now. They were definitely in private school when he started pushing RW propaganda.

Background:
VA DOE is required by law to update the standards of learning every 7 years. New standards means new SOL tests. New SOL tests means new scales for passing.
Math:
The 2009 standards were used for SOL tests from 2012 to 2018.
The 2017 standards were used for SOL tests from 2019 to current.
Pass cut scores for math were rescaled in 2019 because it was a new test.

Arbitrarily increasing the cut scores off-cycle with no additional supports for kids isn't going to increase mastery.
If it weren't simply a political move, they'd plan for it and roll it out with additional support.

I see recommendations to adopt a better curriculum and actually use it, allow homework in elementary schools, allocate math specialists based on students who need them, provide more detail about pass scores, etc. These seem pretty reasonable, honestly.
