Since you stated that you are looking for landscape, beach, and hiking, Kauai is better than Oahu. Do the full Kalalau Valley hike (permit required) and the hikes in Waimea. For landscape and beaches, the north side from Ainini Beach to Ke'e Beach is the most beautiful in all of Hawaii. Zuckerberg thinks so.

Yeah, our family had a job opportunity there, but it wasn't worth it for us at all taking all the costs/isolation into consideration. It is VERY expensive and we wouldn't have gotten enough benefit from the admittedly amazing natural surroundings to make it work. We also had young kids at time and private school is $$$$ and pretty much required due to failing public schools.

I believe the slowest times of the year for travel in Hawaii are May and September. And I would agree with the PP who said not to judge Hawaii/Oahu/Waikiki on the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I've stayed there twice and while unique, it can be utter madness there. I want to stay we stayed at a smaller Outrigger hotel in Waikiki that wasn't right on the beach but nice...the Beachcomber maybe? There are plenty of other options.

This. It's the case honestly for a lot of places that have great weather year round.

Agree! We’ve been to Big Island, Kauai, Maui and Oahu on separate trips (not a cruise) and each is awesome in a different way. But for us, Oahu surprised us once we got out of Honolulu. I look at Oahu real estate regularly but think it’s out of our budget

Do not judge Oahu by this!! Hilton Hawaiian Village is probably the worst place on the whole island.

+1 Visit Waikiki for a day but don't stay there.

I spent two weeks at Lanikai Beach and have never forgotten it.
