Women’s health is very important. A woman needs to go to the gynecologist even if she isn’t sexually active. A PCP might be able to help with and cover gynecological concerns BUT a good PCP would ask you if you’ve gone to a gyno at your annual. Is the concern undergoing a pelvic exam or are the trolls on here worried about a gyno actually providing BC advice?
Not everyone needs to get a full pelvic exam, if there is no risk factors, there are other options for testing now.
It’s up to the individual, and should be discussed with pcp to determine best options.
You understand that a full pelvic exam isn’t required at a gyno visit, right? Or are you pushing fear narrative.
American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends first visit around 15 to discuss female health (menstruation, HPV exam, to establish trust with a female health provider, etc). A regular Pap smear is recommended starting at 21 regardless if you are a virgin.
I don’t understand the rigidity of posters and all this does is make it “scary” to go to the gynecologist. This is how some women end up delaying care.
