Take the admitted students day tour of the engineering department and you will be impressed— there are so many cool things at UMich. I was blown away. And there are some niche specialties only UMich has…

GT’s neighborhood is pretty iffy.

UMich by a lot

Those numbers would look a lot different if it could be broken down to just Engineering majors. Tech is top 3.

…and Michigan is top 5. I think too many here are conflating Michigan Engineering with UVA.

That and UMich is a huge school receives 115,000 applications and admits more than double some of these schools. Thousands of their in-state applications that won't pay to go out of state. I would like to see the comparison where they separated out for OOS non Michigan residents against these other top schools for OOS. Clearly the large amount of in-state kids applying will pick Michigan. I think like 80% of in-state Michigan residents pick UMich for obvious financial reasons. If you just look at the acceptance rate for both schools last cycle. Georgia Tech had a 12.7 Overall Acceptance rate and UMich was at 15.2 %.

GT is a more selective school. But, it's all preference. A lot of GT rejects are at Michigan.

The real question is would anyone choose Umich over Georgia Tech. My kid chose GTech over and it wasn't even close for him.

As a Michigan engineering major who decided part way through college that engineering was not for me, Michigan offered me a lot of other opportunities. It was great to be able to try out other colleges and majors. And it was both fun and high-quality.

I’d choose Michigan. Engineering students can get a minor or dual major in business from Ross.
