Because people will not keep the extra money and invest it.
That's literally the reason Social Security exists, so that once people are unable to work they're not dying in the streets or living off cat food, which is exactly what was happening before Social Security.
In capitalism there are winners and losers. Natural selection eleminates the loser and the next generation raises the bar to be even better

I’d like that idea for me but you and I both know that people are stupid. You’ll get the dipshits investing their extra money in something so volatile that when they retire, they’ll have nothing. Then they’ll blame “the system”.

I remember my middle school teachers saying the *exact same thing* to me in the 80s. Social Security is still around and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. We live in a democracy and there is NO WAY people are going to vote in favor of eliminating their own SS.
It will be strangled to death by the GOP and it won't even come to the voters. Most people won't understand what is happening

Anonymous wrote:Taxes will increase, and interest rates will increase. Dividing the total debt by the U.S. population results in a debt of roughly $115,000 to $116,000 per citizen. If only calculated per taxpayer, this burden exceeds $200,000, and it increases by roughly $1 trillion every 100 days. Thats why I groan every time trump adds yet another vanity project to the debt.

This. Also, consider retiring early for Roth conversions.
