any insight into how downtown preschool exmissions went? specifically Barrow, First Pres, Beginnings.

Not every feeder is the same. When we did tours, Episcopal was upfront about not wanting to discuss exmissions and focusing on the whole child (play based). If we had went with them, I knew we would have had to supplement academics if we wanted to be competitive.

But what academics do they need to know beyond the basics? Episcopal isn’t even teaching them that through play?

Preschools are good with teaching the behavior side, but test taking is a skill by itself and the more practice the better you become at it.

Wow, just watched that whole “getting into kindergarten” series. These kids were so stinking cute, under so much pressure. I guess they all must be in their 20s now. I found it interesting that the West Side Montessori head couldn’t broker Browning for Caleb. And surprised that the 4 year olds were applying to private and not waiting a year for 5. Maybe things were different back in 2006

You're just reinforcing stereotypes of typical UES moms who think only a handful of preschools are worth it, and those preschools just happen to be available only to a small population of connect parents.

No matter who this woman is, she’s right: for profit schools are terrible.

We are waiting on our STMPG admissions decision for 2s, and it does seem like it's not really talked about here or online nearly as much as other programs. It was our favorite during the admissions process so I've been trying to get more information without avail, especially regarding emissions.

Know many at All Souls. My friend’s child’s class, I think everyone got at least one offer and I think maybe one class mate got all waitlists.

That being said. I think many families will be upset if they don’t get their top choice or waitlisted for everything except one school. I’m assuming most feeder schools had the same issue this year as well.

Were there a lot of siblings and legacies to compete with? was there good placement if not a sibling/legacy?

I know for us (All Souls Family) I think it went really well, and I’m speaking solely on non-legacy/ sibling acceptances. Yes there are sibling/legacies but they don’t make up the majority of the two classes that applied.

One is going to Trinity, I don’t think many applied to HM but none I know of, and unsure of Dalton. We have two classes that applied so unsure who got in where in the other classroom except for siblings/ legacies.

In general I think HM is hard to get in to because they have a preschool and take from there first.

As to HM, kids at preschool at HM move up to K without additional admission. That is the downtown campus. The uptown campus selects a new set of K students.

Dalton was pushing borderline young siblings to apply next year.

STMPG operates as an insiders’ school. You dont get in without a rec from an existing family. That doesnt seek to represent the community in the slightest, amusing for a church school.

Dalton siblings?! I know quite a few got rejected. But it happens very year. Dalton is very transparent about its sibling policy - not every sibling will get accepted unless the school feels he/she is the right fit.
