Absolutely love Maine. We spent a week in Acadia during the summer - rocky beaches and cool weather were perfect for us.

Freezing waters.took day trip to Kennebunkport, boring. Really only enjoyed the rushed Boston part of the trip. We went in early August too so I imagine the warmest time.

Sounds like you're more of an Ocean City MD or Seaside Heights NJ kinda person.

Maine is great for everyone! I love it. Find something that fits you. I love Portland in the middle of the winter, the coast and the rivers in the summer. But there is so much and it is so accessible. Martha's Vineyard is fine but boring. Don't go to the Hamptons if you don't have money and/or a private residence.

There is a lighthouse to see and shopping is just a short drive away in Kittery, ME and Portsmouth, NH. Highly recommend eating at Margaritas in Portsmouth if you like Mexican food and fun decor.

I was with you until the recommendation for Margarita’s. It’s a chain restaurant and not downtown. Portsmouth has so many wonderful local restaurants that are well worth trying. We are from Portsmouth and spend a ton of time there every year.

I like all these places OP and yes, it's absolutely doable. If you don't mind a road trip, you can time driving to the Hamptons or the Vineyard and take the ferry if needed. Look for a nice but modest rental in a good location and you are set. As much as I love Maine, the beaches are not great and really rocky. it's nice to just have "beach days" instead of constantly coming up with a plan of things to do. Since you have teens, try to be somewhere walkable to a town.

It’s fine.

My family went to Quogue a lot as a kid to visit my grandma at her condo. It was chill and not like the rest of Southampton.
