It’s just realizing demoralizing and kid is pretty depressed because has worked really hard studying in that class and we check parentvue every single day for missing work. This is a kid that works so hard at school and hasn’t always had the easiest time so the A in their favored class would have really meant a lot to them. They have a tutor that works with them on homework organization (in addition to all the time I spend trying to help them) and would have helped them fix this if we had realized the issue earlier in the quarter. It’s depressing to have worked so hard to get As on all the tests and other assignments and then end ip with a B for stuff we don’t know was missing.

Sounds like your kid should have an A. Today is the last day to submit grades so your kid needs to go asap and advocate with this teacher and ask for the 50%. And he may also need to go to the AP. It’s worth a shot.

My department head to just mark non-submitted assignments as "Missing" in My MCPS. It calculates as zero when sending grades over to synergy. I am not sure if this shows as a Z or whatever admin thinks it should be.

I point this out to admin every year. It's clear the people making these grading rules are not talking to teachers. I used to think it was just to make it harder for teachers to give zeroes. Now I think it is ignorance repeated over and over again since there is no technical solution offered.

Teacher here. Missing in Canvas does show up as a z in synergy

I mean, a B is pretty awesome. Let him know that.

And if i am to somehow believe them, how should I grade it? How do I know they even did a good job on the assignment? You would probably be upset if i just handed out a 50 because what if they did 90 work?

There seems to be no real solution other than provide me with proof you did it and turned it in. This is why I do everything on Chromebooks in my class and only on rare occasions allow for paper copies.

I get it. But you can't blame the OP's kid for being disturbed that missing assignments are being posted after the marking period has ended, during snow days when they can't talk to their teacher about it.

If OP's kid is telling the truth and several missing assignments only appeared last week after the MP2 had ended, unless the missing assignments happened a day or two before the MP2 ended, that's the fault of the teacher for not updating their grading in a timely fashion.

-+1 this never happens with the organized teachers who stay on top of their grading in accordance with the timing/expectations of the new grading policy. There shouldn’t be a bunch of assignments popping up in synergy after the end of the semester has ended. It should be whatever was covered and due the last week.

this! And also isn’t the new rule is that assignments need to be graded and updated for student to see within ten days? But it is common sense that unless it was an assignment given the last school day of the quarter that the teacher should let any student who has missing assignments (according to the teachers grade book) know before the quarter is over.

We were told that we could not accept any late work over the last 5 days of the quarter. However we were also told that we should be assigning work over those last 5 days and let students know there is no late work accepted. These assignments were all PP assignments and many of them were simple google forms or “In 3-5 sentences tell me what you learned this MP” type assignments . They were all done in class and students who were absent were exempted.
