“A myriad of reasons” is correct ando so is “myriad reasons” (without the an and the of).

Just because enough clueless people have started using it incorrectly for others to adopt that incorrect usage does not make it correct (and yes, I know language evolves, blah blah blah). But I will die on this hill. It would be like saying, "I have a various of reasons." Myriad and various follow the same grammatical pattern.

I would love to be the hangout house. So good when you're the safe space and seeing your kids friends. As long as homework and chores are not an issue, it's great. So good for you for doing a reset with your kid.

Well it doesn’t end in college. DS now brings home friends from college. We are only two hours by train. The international kids came for Thanksgiving. East coast, Bay Area and SoCal kids came for MLK weekend. Not sure who will end up here Presidents Day weekend.

Op here. They left yesterday by 7:30 (two of them shared an Uber) and one had her mother pick her up.

I talked to my daughter today about my expectations going forward and it is going to be pretty much tit for tat: your school assignments are up to date, I see you are locking in, you don’t half ass your chores - your friends are welcomed to hang out here on non school nights but they must leave at a reasonable hour. Also, they can’t bring their pets (yeah, I had a “guest” cat over the weekend and although the kitten was fun, it stressed me out because I was worried he would do his business inside my closets, etc.).

Our house is the hangout house too but I have stricter rules on when kids need to leave. I have no issue saying come on over but they have to be picked up by xx time. And I’m not a big fan of sleepovers. Not for safety reasons, I just find them to be too much work.

I also have no issue wearing what I want to wear in my house. I’ll throw a bra on but PJs are staying on. And if I want to use my living room, they can go to the basement. That’s the reason we finished it and made it fun for their friends (pool table, arcade machines, etc).

Last Saturday she went on a double date and she came back and brought 4 friends with her.

I specifically told her I wanted them to leave early because of the incoming snow storm.

Lo and behold, besides one girl, they stayed until 1:30am “waiting for a ride.” And my husband ended up having to drive one girl to her home.

Sunday, around 6pm one of those friends came back and slept over, leaving yesterday around 10am.

Today, there are 2 (soon to be 3) friends here, studying.

I HATE this! I want to enjoy my house and walk around in my ragged pjs without worrying about teens.

And what kind of parents just let their kids stay out in someone’s house until late like this without picking them up?? I can’t in good conscience make them leave, at night time, in the winter, just before a snowstorm.

I told her today they have to be out by 7pm. I’m tired of driving these kids around, or making my husband do it - don’t they have parents????


I can understand why that is annoying. But I wish kids would hang out at our house! It is too small. No one wants to be here. It is nice and modern and renovated up to today's standards but small and my kids are embarrassed. Sigh. My daughter spent most of the day away and I did enjoy the peace a quiet, but trust I feel bad I am not able to post and I'd go get her the second you asked me to.
