Subject: So was this snowstorm overhyped? Sort of a Bust?
They went from a predicted 18 to 24 inches to a big 6 inches. That's good everyone cleaned out the stores and has enough food for two weeks. Its going to take two weeks to restock all the shelves.

I am in the northern Baltimore suburbs and the last predictions were 5 to 8 inches, and we did get about 8 inches. But it's the packed sleet that is the challenge.
We shoveled continuously yesterday, going out every few hours to clear the pathways and around the cars. Our neighbors who didn't are now dealing with much heavier bricks of ice. That's the difference from regular snow.

Arlington and got about five inches and hours and hours of sleet. We shoveled twice yesterday but cleaning up this morning was still awful. Cleared our sidewalk and front walk but still haven’t dug out our cars. A foot of powdery snow would have been so much more preferable.
We usually shop fresh every other day so yes we are a family that bought much more than usual since I bought for 4-5 days’ worth of meals in case we did have this sort of icy scenario. Not panic shopping or hoarding, but it means we don’t have to venture out unnecessarily.

Just a note. It's not enough to clear school grounds and parking lots (which is still A LOT for county-wide districts). They also need some reasonable assurance that walking routes are safe for most kids. That means a decision is made by the district and the county together depending on how plowing is going, how sidewalks look, etc.

Yes the sheet of ice we got is actually way trickier and harder to remove than more snow, IMO.

I don’t know how the OP considers this a bust. To me this is much worse than I thought it would be even if the total inches are on the lower end of the estimates. The ice everywhere which makes many streets impassable and which is not going anywhere for some two weeks is an absolute nightmare. I don’t get people being worked up over schools being closed on Tuesday. They should be closed as no one knows how to drive on this and many can’t even get out of their houses as their cars are snowed in in side streets and alleys.

The sleet and continuous cold temps are the PITA for sure. A dumping of snow (even on a weekday) and then gorgeous sun and melt? I would take that over this in a second.

I'm not really following the OP. Where we are, we wended up getting at the lower end of the range predicted, but it was still within the range. This area was always going to be tricky to predict with the changeover to sleet because more sleet translates to fewer inches overall.

You're not right in your mind and need professional help, OP. No one gets this angry about storm predictions that were actually quite accurate 2 days out (you should never set store by predictions further out). No idea what crap weather app you were looking at.

Even if the roads are bad its still fake news they hyped this up way worse than it was.
They're always clear the models have uncertainty. This came right where CWG said it would be. I don't know what you're upset about, emergency services always tell people to err on the side of caution. I'm from Florida and we do the same for hurricanes, if you're in the zone of uncertainty, you prep.
