It is really pathetic around here how long it takes for snow plows to clear roads as well as how incompetent people are about driving in the snow and shoveling themselves out.

I’m not saying it is an easy cleanup but 24 hrs is already a lot of time for families and schools to handle it.

I’d guessing schools open Thursday at the earliest.

They will all by this evening. Start being mad now if you are one of the crazy people who think it’s fine out.

Tomorrow is not realistic. You are looking at Thursday for most schools. Wednesday two hour delay for inside beltway and dc maybe. Still going to say Thursday for all.

Clearing this from parking lots and such is going to be so hard. The crust of ice on top is thick and it will get worse day by day with no melting.

People who didn’t shovel during and/or were out of town are just going to give up. Clearing their sidewalks today will be so difficult especially if a lot of people have walked on it.

This is going be a hard cleanup. We should see people melting here in the next few days when they realize school will be lucky to open by the end of the week. Get ready for the crazy people asking why it takes three days to clean up an ice storm 😁 it’s not going to melt people it’s freezing out. This is not a normal cleanup.

All that sleet has transmogrified into a sheet of ice. It will soften a bit with near-freezing temps in the next day or two, but will freeze back to an even more solid layer of ice each evening. I'd be very surprised if we see a snow plow on our street today; tomorrow or even Wednesday is more realistic. Even then, there's only so much it will be able to do.

As the week goes on, remember what goes into consideration:
1) Is the campus cleared, safe and operational?
2) Are families able to safely get the students to the school?
3) Are the teachers, who may be coming from an hour away, able to safely get to the school?

Our school has a set plan — first snow day of the school year is an actual snow day, and then virtual learning after that. So Monday is off, but any further campus closures will be virtual days (Tuesday, etc).

I expect at least Tuesday to be virtual, maybe Wednesday, but back in person by Thursday.
