It's his own cabinet who needs to make the call. That's where all the weird sycophants are now.

And I know he sucks but there’s no way taking Greenland is in the playbook he signed on to…..

If Trump and Hegseth issue an order to take Greenland, there will be a widespread mutiny among the military. None of these soldiers want to kill Danes, Germans, Norwegians, English and so on. There will be enormous resistance within the military, especially among senior officers who are well aware of what a strategic catastrophe an invasion of Greenland would become. It's the end of the US in NATO, the loss of all bases in Europe and other places like Diego Garcia. Not to mention the economic disaster for the US when the dollar is no longer the reserve currency, trade dies, and interest rates skyrocket.
I do believe enough of these spineless Republican senators will finally hit their limit and will vote for impeachment if Trump issues that order. It takes 67 to remove Trump from power. Very doable under these circumstances.
But we should never be in these circumstances to begin. We have a Mad King in the White House. This is a complete failure of our political system.
While the invasion of Greenland would be stupid and immoral, I don’t see a shot being fired. EU troops know it would be suicide. They’d stand down immediately and withdraw under protest. And I doubt the EU would crash the dollar also since that would be equally suicidal.
I think you underestimate Europeans knowledge of history and acquiescence. Why do you assume NATO won't defend Greenland against an unwanted and unwarranted threat?
First, Denmark’s ownership of Greenland benefits nobody in Europe except Denmark. I’m sure French troops would fight for French soil - I’m not sure they’ll fight for Denmark’s colony.
Second there’s no way a US-less NATO can offer meaningful military resistance. Greenland is ice and exposed rock. US air superiority and satellite intelligence would wipe out any European ground troops and their artillery (eg Iraq 1991) before we put a single soldier into combat. So again, EU troops would be on a suicide mission.
Again, I think invading would be stupid and immoral. But it’s hard to see it bogging down into a long shooting war.
