This. Im 5'6, size 2 and I have a pair from Free People and I wear low and that are really loose. PP here. Those are the ones that I have and LOVE them. I just bought a suit with barrel trousers. I bought it NYC and it is so cute.

Those are much trickier to pull off in your mid 40s if you are not super fit. A bit of a low belly (which most women have in their 40s) will ruin them real fast because they are intended to lie flat against your body. The floppier ones can hide a small pouch.

I have the ones from Madewell. I like the weight of the demon. They’re high waisted, which I don’t like. I wear them with the top button unbuttoned and the wait rolled down under a baggy top. Sexy, I know! 5’4 woman, 28 waist.

It does not flatter those with short legs. If those are short bow legs it's far worse.
Clothing should flatter, not accentuate unfortunate physical traits.
It's as ridiculous as short men with short legs wearing their pants halfway down their butts. While it looks passable on basketball players with long coltish legs, it does nothing for their shorter, stockier brethern who are built like dachsunds.

Those aren't even jeans, but anyway: I don't think any of those people look bowlegged. I can see their legs -- they are straight.

This is like looking at a woman in a fishtail gown and thinking "omg does she have a mermaid tail???" or seeing someone in a full ballgown and think "wow, I think she just has enormous hips and thighs I guess."

It's fine to just say you don't like the shape or you don't think they are flattering. But the idea that these incredibly common, popular jeans make women look like they have a serious disability is so weird. I see women in barrel jeans all the time and none of them look bowlegged. They look like people wearing jeans with a barrel shaped leg.

This. The denim has to be relaxed and then they are just loose and comfortable. I have actually never seen anyone wearing the stiff, kind of balloon shaped barrel jeans IRL. I see them on websites for sale, but they look comical and I don't know who buys them. My barrel jeans are the Madewell darted version and they don't look like that, either on their website or on my body.

My barrel jeans for the way I have always wished my straight jeans fit -- relaxed and forgiving.

I really love then on a day like today because there is plenty of room to layer some long underwear underneath. They look great with cute wool sweater and then the hems cuffed to the top of my hiking boots. It's not a sexy look but it's comfortable and pulled together.

In warm weather I have a pair of linen barrel leg pants and plan to get another this year. Those I wear more fitted at the waist and with a bit of a crop, but the linen is so fluid that they still don't look too voluminous.
