They are probably a test from the aliens to see how gullible we are to trend suggestions. I strongly urge you to say no.

This. Im 5'6, size 2 and I have a pair from Free People and I wear low and that are really loose. Very, very comfortable and I feel like I can move my body really easily, so I feel confident. i dont wear them often, maybe once a month, but I always get compliments from women and someone asks me where I got them. They definitely look a LOT better than skinny jeans, which I can't stand the sight of anymore.
They are supposed to kind of flop around. I agree stiff barrel jeans that sit high and snug don't look good.

This is it. I've posted these on other barrel jeans threads. Notice how every model is wearing them low and loose, and also how in the videos, you can see their slender legs when they walk, because the fabric is floppy.
They are somehow very very flattering. I can't explain it. They feel sexy, I get lots of Dads siddling up to me to chat on days when I wear these, and compliments from women. I feel like I'm back in high school in the mid 90s (though i wore straight jeans then, but they remind me a "skater" clothes.)
I like barrel jeans but these are too dramatic for me. I think they look to young for me (I'm mid-40s). I prefer something like this:

The women who hate this trend tend to be from the generation who lived through the ultra low rise trend as young adults. That was a messed up time, not just with regards to fashion but regarding attitudes towards women's bodies. It was the peak of demanding women by skinny and sexy in a very performative way. If you internalized those messages, barrel jeans must seem psychotic to you.
But those of us who like them just don't think about it that way. I don't think my barrel jeans are sexy or even particularly flattering to my body. Yet I like how they look anyway. If they go out if fashion, I won't think "omg I looked so bad." I'll think "remember when barrel jeans were in style? That was great."
It makes you look bow legged. That’s certainly a choice.
I've never seen a woman in barrel jeans and thought she looked bowlegged. I don't see a bunch of bowlegged-looking women walking around.
DP, and every single person pictured on this barrel pant pair that a PP posted looks bow legged (which is not to say anything about how PP might look, the models look worse than the "styled by you" type pictures!)

I really like the ones that look more like they are going to be fitted in the butt, then start gradually flaring, as if you're just going to get a wide leg, but then start back in around the knee.
I also think you have to be massively cool to pull them off, in which case you pretty much look great in anything since half of fashion is attitude.
That’s a lot of caveating.
