I don’t think the real story is that deep either, frankly. I spent time on the 90s on Russia and many (not all but many) women just had very different views of relationships. It’s more like what women in the west thought hundreds of years ago in a pre feminist world — romance is a fun idea when you’re young but not a long term plan. Men will cheat and treat you as badly as they think they can get away with, and the smart thing is to maximize your physical assets so you have the most power in the dating market in order it pick someone who will give you long term protection and comfort through their connections or money. She got exactly what she wanted, although I don’t think she wanted all this political bullshit which makes it all more work for her. I think that’s frustrating but still within what she viewed as the job description. She loves her mom, and was glad she could take care of her, and loves her son and is glad she can take care of him. Everything else is just part of the job. She’s also probably moderately racist, and she likes fashion. That’s it. That’s the whole story.

The whole does she love him or hate him or what question is totally beside the point — it’s like any job where there are things like you and things you don’t but ultimately you stay because that’s how you’ve built your life.

I do think her life is stilted, an endless series of spa days and fashion magazines, and lonely (and she feels lonliness unlike trump) but some petty grievances may help animate her from utter the bordom. And she does lover her son and did love her mom. Love helps.

The documentary won't show any of this unless though.

I can’t wait to see the brilliant Laura Benanti spoof the trailer.

Majority Report watched it and it was rather a hoot, kids. She says something like Trump is a “peacemaker and unifier” but it does kinda sound like “intifada.” (Which is weird!! Unless of course FLOTUS is now Hamas…..)

People always say this but she isn't even Russian. Why would Russia find some random woman in Yugoslavia to send to the US to date an old guy and convince him to run for president? Beyond bizarre conspiracy theory, and no, I have never voted for Trump nor would I.

Yugoslavia and Russia have had strong cultural and political ties for a very long time. Slovenia also frequently acts as a go between for Russia and NATO countries.

And I don’t think that Melania is a Putin plant. But just playing devils advocate
