I am from a targeted marginalized group, so yes, it is my duty to speak up about the issues facing my people and advocating for them. That is actually the only purpose for my social media, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve also used it to fundraise and been very successful with that component. Have people unfollowed or muted? Sure? Do I care? Absolutely not. Is it possible I could lose my job or have greater repercussions because I’m already targeted for my identity? Yes, but I’m willing to face those consequences. Have I gained more friends and more opportunities that are aligned with my values? Also, yes. I also regularly go on podcasts, give interviews, etc.

I don’t, but only because I work for a federal agency and I would like to keep my job. Under any other administration, I feel like I could support or oppose a policy without retribution — but not this administration. I will sometimes “like” someone’s post, but even that makes me paranoid. Once in a while, I will push back on someone’s post, but I do so in a way that might suggest I’m an independent and only trying to engage in critical thinking.

I do it because I know people who are immigrants, and I want them to know I have their backs. I do it to show courage, because that’s what it takes to put yourself out there in resistance to the current administration. I do it because what is happening unseen and yes, undocumented!, in ICE detention centers is stunningly close to German ghettos and concentration camps in the 1930s, and I’ve always judged harshly the Germans who did nothing.

And I do it, and show up at protests, to lessen the danger for the other people who are doing it. If you’re coming for that person, I’m standing up with them. That’s why my heroes as a middle aged white person, are a bunch of ordinary young people and dedicated politicians from the civil rights era of American history. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

I definitely post political stuff on FB, along with personal stuff about how I’m doing, music I like, or sometimes travel photos. I post up to 3 times a week.

I personally get annoyed by people on (my!) social media who post political things that do not coincide with my own beliefs.

Well to be more concise - - anyone who posts supporting words for our current Prez annoy me to he#% ➕ back.
But if I like them as a friend, I simply just scroll right on by.

I always post with my name on FB and I do plenty of political posts. Let people block me. I don't care. I'm also in a lot of groups but I'll quit groups that allow anonymous posting or AI generated questions.

Most of what we see as information is trash. News is targeted in such a way as to confirm our bias- in whatever direction it may be - and push towards specific conclusions and tribalism. Absolutely hold to your values and agree/disagree on z, y, or z. But hold on to your absolutes loosely.

I do, but not a lot. I do not mute people I know in real life just because their views are drastically different from mine, and certainly don't block them.
