The average students at our median GPA and the SAT you listed at the privates in our area land at JMU, clemson, UTK, Auburn, and VT if not going for a stem major.

Wow. So wrong. Not getting into Clemson or Auburn with those stats. OOS. A slightly better chance if you are a male .

That profile is WAY above average!

This is NOT an average student. Honestly, DCUM has warped everyone's sense of what is truly average - the OP's child is definitely above average.

I doubt getting into Clemson or Tennessee out of state. Not sure about Auburn, but would doubt it, too.

Average students aren't getting into VT either. Not sure where the PP got those schools from...

Came to say this. Their alums seem to have had a great experience and all the ones I know have very good jobs.

JMU is a fabulous school that offers something for everyone. Highly recommend.

Fairfield is like Northeastern - really aggressively gaming the system to create a false sense of importance. It is a perfectly fine school but not as great as it thinks it is. It is basically the safety to ND/Nova/BC/HC and possibly even Fordham. No shame in that.

I don't think Fairfield or Stony Brook accept these stats anymore.

The college admissions process seems much more enjoyable with an average student who’s open to a wide variety of options than with a top stats student who’s fixated on the T-20’s and top LAC’s. There seems to be this unspoken “rule” that a top students shouldn’t consider schools ranked below the top tier, if finances aren’t an issue, which is a dumb mentality .

So many options. Seriously!

Just not a top 20 LAC, or top public.
