There are several animal rehabilitation organizations that take fur donations, which are used for burrowing and cuddling by animals on the mend. You can google this.

Thanks for the suggestions. My nieces wouldn’t touch them though, they are an assortment of vegans and such.

Also, do you have any suggestions for giving away clothes in general? My mother has a lot of stuff but it’s mostly for older people. She was a dresser in her day and has a lot of fancy stuff. She also never got rid of my dad’s clothes so I have all that to deal with too. He was also a dresser so there are a lot of suits, blazers etc.


Depending on how old the clothes are, they could be donated to a long term care facility--there are people in their 100s who have outlived all their relatives and money. Another possibility would be vintage/thrift stores.

While in college in the late 1970s I had a bunch of fabulous 40s and 50s dresses that had belonged to my mom and aunts. We ended up with a pile of my FIL's silk ties some of which I used in a wall hanging (applique art)

Real furs have some kind of lipid coating, it’s fairly easy to clean. And they bound back to their fluffy shiny self.

I never asked. She sent all her laundry out (lived in NYC) so maybe she had them cleaned too.

I'd imagine they're machine washable. It's not like the pelts didn't get wet when they were attached to their original owners.

Hah, I think I'm the opposite of you. Not an animal lover but the thought of wearing their carcass is so gross, I could never!
