No, they just don’t want to be lumped into the “privileged white people “ trope. My friend from Appalachia was born dirt poor yet has worked her way out of poverty. She hates when she is referred to as “privileged” and she was just as disadvantaged as many urban minorities.

Just about the only stereotype today that is still considered acceptable is of the “trailer trash” and “redneck” variety. That is why people on DCUM hate people from red states. Sad, really.

Government funded institutions should represent the society that pays for them. We know there is cultural and economic bias in standardized tests. Students have more to offer beyond grades and test scores. Colleges should recognize this and aim for diversity, not just people who can pay $7-$30k on private college advising.

No, it shouldn't. It should reflect the applicant pool, not the general population.

Also, most people are fine with income based diversity, but not race based diversity. There's no reason a brown/black kid from a well to do family with two parent lawyers should get a leg up over an Asian American kid whose parents are immigrants who barely speak English.



Systemic racism is real and yes, the AA kid should be given preference because of the history of this country.

Looking at the data you reference, your statement could be extended to the other racial groups identified:

“Without Black and Hispanic DEI, most Blacks and Hispanics couldn’t compete head to head with whites and Asians on almost every objective admissions metric.”

White people benefited from Affirmative Action. Now you're seeing them not be able to compete with Asian Americans and foreign born admissions at HYP, Cal, UCLA, USC, UW, etc.
