It might be based on order of application (among other things). When did you apply?

Mid October. Got admitted to Honors early December but no scholarship yet

Yes. Applied in late October, admitted and then honors letter in December, 20k merit (Swanson) earlier this month.

Was the merit mentioned in the admission letter or was it in a separate document which came later

Separate, came a bit over a month later.

(Each piece was separate: admissions, honors, merit.)

What is the gpa and SAT?. Mine has 1580 and nothing on merit yet. Wierd

It’s not that weird. They give out a lot of merit early. Kids who apply with high stats in August/September get quick admissions and merit offers. Then the offers slow down through the later fall/winter. I’m guessing that a kid with a 1580 SAT will eventually get merit. But as others have said, the key to early, certain merit at Pitt is applying early.

Or is it because we submitted FAFSA without them asking for it and they saw no need

FWIW, we also submitted fafsa without asking for aid. Have no need but they have DC the $15k scholarship.

Surprised our kid got big merit tonight!! We had pretty much given up on merit as it sounded like others got merit a while ago and we thought our child wasn’t getting anything. Applied in late September, accepted in late October, got in honors college in mid-December. Merit in late January. OOS Engineering. High stats. Yay!

Last year, merit typically came before Honors College, as that was separate app.
This year, no separate app for honors College, so some (all?) kids found out about honors when they got acceptance.
In both cases (had kids applying last year and this), max merit ($20k engineering last yr; $15k A&S) came 2-3 weeks after admission. But these kids applied early Sept. Pitt has pot of $$$ and they start giving it out in Sept. when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Great school. Good luck to everyone.

This year it was acceptance, then merit, then honors college, each about 2-3 weeks apart. My kid was in the earliest wave for all of them.

Not this reason. When our oldest was applying, I attended a school FAFSA meeting where they said everyone gets something, always complete the FAFSA. So I did. We got nothing, and kid still got $15k per year from PITT. 35 ACT, 4.8 WGPA, Dietrich

No. We submitted FAFSA showing no need, and my kid got 15k. Applied mid-October.

You don’t need to submit FAFSA to be eligible for merit at Pitt.
Last year, merit typically came before Honors College, as that was separate app.
This year, no separate app for honors College, so some (all?) kids found out about honors when they got acceptance.

Nah. We didn’t submit FAFSA, and my kid got 15k. Applied August.

DP. My kid with 1450 got $15k with no FAFSA submitted at all. But they applied in early October.
