Fast fashion is not that new. I shopped at Forever 21 when I was in my 20s and I'm nearly 50 now. H&M and Zara have actually gone a bit more upscale since I was young but back then they regularly had like bins of clothes for under $5 sometimes.

I think the bigger issue is that more expensive clothes are lower quality now, even though they cost as much or more. So clothes don't last the way they used to. But a cocktail dress you wear only occasionally? No one would expect that to be replaced within 3 years. It's not getting much wear and assuming it's still in style, it would honestly be wasteful not to re-wear.

Oh my god, no, nobody remembers what you wore last week let alone three years ago. You sound so full of yourself, LOL!!

I'm going to be honest, I've worn the same dress to at least 5 weddings over the past 12ish years. I have a dress that travels well without wrinkling, cleans easily, and works great in hot weather. I've yet to find something better for travel summer weddings.
