No wonder people think DC is batshit insane.
OP's question is not remotely insane.
It's pretty insane. If you said "Hey, I'm going to a wedding and three months ago I went to a wedding with some of the same crowd, do you think wearing the same dress is weird" I'd say that wasn't insane.
We're not talking about three months. We're talking about three years.
You clearly don't attend the kind of events where people remember what others wore. I'm guessing you don't attend any events at all, aside from dinners with people you are related to, at places like Olive Garden our Outback. I also question your understanding of the word "insane."

It would be more unusual to never repeat wear a cocktail or formal dress, as most people don't have more than a few in their closet. Sure, some people will rent clothes and that will result in always having new items, but most people don't do this. Some other people might just have huge wardrobes, but I think especially as society has gotten more casual in general, it's just very uncommon for people to have lots of formal clothes sitting around.
Fast fashion wasn't a thing until recently so people used to invest more into their clothing and repair it more.

Anonymous wrote:Wait who doesn't rewear dresses to events? The idea that you'd buy new dresses for every event seems bonkers and wasteful to me.
Anyone who judges someone for wearing the same dress ever, let alone 3 years apart would just be a big jerk.

It's not insane but it is self centered.

Three years ago I wore it to an event where 2-3 couples who were there, will also be at my upcoming event. NO picture were taken at the last event, just throwing that out there.
Do you think you’d remember (or even care) that someone wore the exact same dress at the next event you attended together?
