And this makes these schools more appealing to me because i know my kid won’t have to cross paths with these people. And note that I am all for diversity of opinion and think it was stifled at many schools which is horrible. But diversity of opinion means intellectual rigor, not repeating himbos and bimbos.

What's the difference?

Thirty-five years ago I went on study abroad with a guy who went to either Swarthmore or Haverford, then later I ended up in the same master's program as him. Haven't heard from him in probably 30 years, but we connected on LinkedIn like 15 year ago. Every year or two since then he springs to mind for a minute, and I wonder which school it was he went to. I check LinkedIn to find out, then forget for another year or two and check again.

Haverford if they’re at all interested in a campus community. I know it’s not typically dcum advice to tell someone to go to a “less prestigious” college, but really swarthmore has no personality outside of working all the time. If your goal is just to work yourself to the bone and have a difficult undergrad, go to Uchicago and do it with the best of the best (this is shade to neither institution, just being blunt). I just think the average LAC student will be reasonably challenged and enjoy their time more at Haverford than go to Swarthmore where the whole place can be summed up as “we’re miserable but it’s so fun!”

Both of these schools are recognized for their arboretums, with Swarthmore placing 3rd in this ste and Haverford 14th:
