My younger daycare kid eats healthier than you older one does and gets way less sick but wondering if its a coincidence

Coincidence. My pickiest eater gets sick the least.

I credit sleep. My seventh grader is in bed by 9 and my second grader has lights out at 7:30.

Farm people are sturdy. My mother’s family going back generations to France were farmers and the women lived to be 100 and they had 6-10 kids each.

My grandma grew up on a farm and caught spinal TB from the cows and was sick her entire life. Let's not sugarcoat how brutal farm life can be.

Two kids close in age. Both with SAHM + part time preschool. Both picky eaters. DS is very rarely sick. DD gets sick all the time. I guess DS just won the genetic lottery for a strong immune system

Mine never got sick. He stayed at home with me for the first few years. No daycare. My niece was sick constantly at daycare.

I have one in daycare and one in kindergarten. When they started daycare they were sick almost every 2 weeks for 1-2 years. After that they hardly ever get sick. They will get a runny nose here and there but nothing too serious. I haven’t done anything different but I think their immune system just got a lot stronger after getting every illness you can possibly have those first couple of years of daycare.

We don't do anything differently. If any, we can be dirtier and less careful than others.
I have no allergies. I grew up on the farm eating dirt, touching every animal.
DH is allergic to some cats. His mom kept them locked up for safety reasons back in the old country.
DC had an allergic reaction to a Siamese as a toddler. I hope he grew out of it. He also had runny nose and eyes every spring in DC up until age 8. I have forgotten about that. All good now.

Luck and genetics. Our kids are fully vaccinated, were in day care starting at 4 months, went to public schools, were formula fed, one was always a great eater the other lived on pasta and cheese from about 8-18. One rarely sick, one frequent ear infections when younger, but that is about it. One first got the flu at age 16, the other not until finals week sophomore year of college. Spouse is rarely sick, I get a sinus infection in February every couple of years

There is no way to get a real answer on this - I'd chalk it up mostly to luck/coincidence.

Genetics and environment. I think you’ve hit upon it.

I have three boys. I’ve tried diet, changing clothes after school, vitamins, etc. the only thing that seemed to help was a foaming antibiotic hand soap my husband picked up randomly from the dollar store. I also think some years you just get lucky and others you get hit hard.

Meh. I just stopped nursing my youngest at 4 (bribery). The other two also went past two years of nursing also. They’re sick nonstop. It hasn’t made any difference. They also are big vegetable eaters.

I think the kids who pick their noses get a lot sicker.
