+1 co-op programs. For a safety, look at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. My friend's daughter loves it, especially taking advantage of all the city location has to offer.

NRO is hiring civilian mechanical engineers. US citizenship required.

Aside from Va Tech, I’d look at UMass Amherst for a relatively chill but still solid engineering program at a school known for excellent food. Honors college is supposed to be pretty great, too

The food is consistently highly ranked at Virginia Tech. They have a lot of delicious options.

Many colleges outsource their cafeteria operations to Sodexo or ARA or such like. So food might be more similar than different between a pair of colleges.

It’s also really nice that there are so many options, each offering a different geographical experience. One more factor for us: DC loves food and cooks whenever he has time, so which campuses have good food—especially spicy food?

It's all the same. As far as a variety in and around campus, it just depends where your kid goes to school. Obviously, bigger urban setting around campus will have more options and variety.
