Your kids is your responsibility. Maybe they think that you are a slacker parent and will happily punt your kid over to them if they show any interest. They have trained themselves to distance themselves from the toxicity that will happen if they get involved in your life or the lives of your children.

Np- Wanting pics of grandkids, being interested in them and enjoying spending time with them isn’t about picking up anyone’s slack or responsibility. My parents have not helped me in any way since I was 18 and they still do all these things just because they enjoy it and family. It’s basically all fun and zero work. I really don’t understand people who presumably are parents themselves and think this is in any way “taking care” of grandkids or having to parent again.

Many parents do not want their children’s pictures on social media. Perhaps, they have friends whose children feel that way and your parents thought you might feel the same way.

How old are your parents? Were you close to them prior to getting married and having children?

Well that is very selfish. They shouldn’t have had kids in the first place they don’t care about them. That dog is not able to care for them when they get old, so good luck with that.

They liked children and enjoyed their offsprings when they were children. So, they had offsprings and raised them into adulthood.

Now the offsprings are adults, they find it unpleasant to have them be needy adult offsprings that cannot take care of their own children. No, they do not find your kids cute. They want to enjoy their life now. There is nothing wrong with that.

Looking at it from your perspective it sounds like they are not interested in or supportive of you or your children, which is really painful. It’s not about the dog, it’s about the fact that they are not capable of the type of relationship you want to have with them. It is easier to have relationships with dogs since you don’t need to be emotionally vulnerable etc. Their love for the dog does not mean they have the capacity to be good parents and choose not to.
