The pendulum has swung so much that now rather than being a “hotbed of liberalism” where conservative thought wasn’t well tolerated, we are now in a place where fear of the administration, bad publicity, and loss of donors is making it such that any controversial topic is steered away from - at risk of termination. Rather than a fulsome conversation around Israel and Gaza, for example, there is an expectation that it be avoided at all costs.
What colleges are doing this well - and in a balanced way? Harvard - after standing up for some time - is now toeing the new line. I was disappointed to hear about Northwestern in this article, and we know Columbia has laid down.

Christian doesn't mean Nazi, and Jewish doesn't mean Zionist.

A Zionist is simply a person who supports the existence of Israel as a Jewish state. Nothing more. Don't be tarted.
When did Zionist become the equivalent of Nazi?
I think israel should exist. Am I a Zionist?
I think Israel should not exist and be replaced by the country of “Israel and Palestine”
Am I therefore an anti-Semite? Should I be censured by a college for daring to say such a thing?
You may or may not be an anti-Semite, but you're definitely tarted. What do you think would happen to the living standards in Tel Aviv if you got your wish?
This whole conversation is stupid, because why would a college have a policy centered around accepted/unaccepted beliefs. If a Chinese student calls Taiwan a fake country, I see no reason for them to be kicked out. If a Russian student wants to say Ukraine is Russian territory, we live on. Why the hell is Israel some special infant that can’t handle criticism.

I agree - but beware the SLACs. Wesleyan is god awful for anyone not on the left politically (including moderates)- you will be a pariah, unless you are an athlete and then you will just hide amongst your teammates for 4 years
