This is the point here: you say you think it would be anighmare, which means you've never been. That's the same reaction OP is getting from people who hear about her trip. So far, not a single person who has actually been on one, even those who went reluctantly, have had anything bad to say.

Because they can’t afford it and instead put it down to feel better about it, it’s a cope. The same way they pretend to prefer their beater car over a newer one with all the bells and whistles. Or they live in a less desirable neighborhood in a fixer upper next to the tollway because they prefer diversity. Ignore.

OP here and my friend was like “oh my gosh, save the money and take your kids to Europe”. Yes, like dragging my 3 kids through Europe would be remotely relaxing.
and that requires so much planning. I like Disney because I know how my whole day is spent. I’m sure cruises are similar

It sounds awful to me too. But I would NEVER tell you that IRL. I don't understand that. I also DO understand why you picked it as a good option. (disclosure: one reason DH and I wouldn't be caught dead on a cruise is because I'm a former Navy Officer and he's a former Marine officer--we spent enough time floating around on big grey boats )

It’s 9am-11pm, and they have “childcare” up to teenagers, I believe. Teens have their own fully supervised section of the ship including a nightclub and their own pool.

We’re a family of 5 and it’s $4000 for a 5 night cruise.

Yes, there is a kids, tween, and teen club where there are staff essentially babysitting but really staff keeps them so engaged. They also have childcare on the private islands. The kids club goes until 11 pm I think, tween until midnight and teen until 1 am. My teens love them on DCL.

Cruises aren't for me, but I know people who like them. I don't get people who fail to understand that other peoplelike different things and you don't yuck on other people's stuff.

I do think people need to learn to say "Have fun! Let me know when you get back" and keep their inner thoughts to yourself.
