Jackson Hole is opening the tram tomorrow, and says there is 4 feet of snow predicted in the next 2 weeks. So maybe things are looking up in the West.

I just looked at the webcams for Whistler and it is pouring down snow. Revelstoke looks good enough also.

We saw the writing on the wall in November and changed our trip to Canada. Banff and Lake Louise are having a great early season. We were supposed to go to Utah.

BC is having an abysmal start to the season, so you'll have a great time but the PP who said Canada broadly is not totally accurate. Whistler especially is bad right now, North Shore is not open, and some of the interior mountains are very meh.

We are stuck with a nonrefundable trip too. We are new to skiing and just assumed CO would always be better than the East coast at winter. Our resort has 25 out of 125 trails open.

Anyone telling you to still go and make the most of it must own a rental property there or not ski.

Sure the area is nice, but as a skier I go there to ski and if I couldn't do that I would stay home.

Which part of there is no snow and it’s been 50 in many mountain town over the past week isn’t hitting?

Both of those activities require snow- which we don’t have.

The snow is awful. Honestly I’d cancel or pivot to setting up other adventures than skiing. I believe it’s supposed to be like 70 in Denver Monday. The worst part is that due to only a few chairs being open you’re going to face both awful snow and lines.

Yep the place we go in Colorado multiple times a year only has greens and a couple blues open. Five percent of their terrain. I’ve never seen it this bad and not going.

We’re going. I would have considered canceling but we stupidly bought season passes and then realized that with kids schedules Christmas is literally the only time we could get out west. There is still more acreage open than the resorts we’d go to in east and Utah and California aren’t any better (ive been checking). It is what it is at this point and we’ll make the best of it - maybe just skiing a couple hours a day and enjoying the down time together.

If it was possible for us to go later in the season and not lose money on our Airbnb I’d probably do that though. We’ve done long weekend ski trips before and let kids miss a couple days of school with no issues at all when they were younger and had fewer commitments/hard classes.
