None of them are close in sports though Texas football is as much of a cult.

UT, UNC, and to a lesser extent, Cal annd UCLA accept anyone OOS. UVA athletics can’t compare to Big 10 sports.

Yes, that’s what I meant. UT and UNC OOS is basically like getting into a lower Ivy.

Michigan isn’t rejecting in ED though, is it? It is postponing (deferring) almost everyone.

Don't quote me, but I think I saw on some college counseling blog that Michigan has already received 70k apps and they are well on their way to setting a record this year. Not sure how many split between ED and EA. I agree that in-state makes sense, but their OOS tuition is almost as high as any private school.
Then again, so is UC Boulder. For the price, I'd choose Michigan. I think it would be a great college experience and a great town to be in.

Don't quote me, but I think I saw on some college counseling blog that Michigan has already received 70k apps and they are well on their way to setting a record this year. Not sure how many split between ED and EA. I agree that in-state makes sense, but their OOS tuition is almost as high as any private school.

I’m curious how many ED apps they received and what percent were in-state. If I was in-state, I would really encourage my kid to apply ED since it’s so cheap compared to privates and they offer free tuition to those who make less than 125k.

That's for last year, EA and RD combined.
The question is about ED apps specifically, since this is the first year UMich has ever offered ED.
The data probably won't be released until next summer, so we certainly don't know yet if the number of ED apps is "massive" as another poster claimed.
