I am not very interested in fashion, but I am almost obsessively interested in style.

I’m 43 and I care about looking nice, but I’m increasingly aware that my version of nice is very 2015 style. I have tried to do some minor updates but I feel silly in the latest trends.

I only care to the extent I know I am being judged by my appearance…

I’m not raising sheep but I’ve gotten very into knitting sweaters and sewing and now I have little patience for fast fashion. Except pants, which I don’t think I could make decently.

I could care slightly less but not that much as it stands currently.

Thanks for asking.

Who cares?

I care about being comfortable and not standing out for my clothing (eg, the latest fashion, clothes too tight, to loose, too revealing, too dirty, too wrinkly, too old). My assumption by your question is do I care about the latest fashion and that is a resounding no. I buy classic, timeless pieces.

NP. You care enough to have a style point of view: classic, timeless pieces. That is indeed a fashion POV, which indicates a level of “care.” Some may think that’s a boring view, but it’s a view all the same. So actually, your answer to OP’s question is yes, yes you COULD care LESS, but you have a degree of care.

I'm too heavy right now and this is 100% the reason my clothes look terrible on me.

As for "fashion," I do not care at all about runway fashion or the fashions advertised in glossy magazines. All of that is way outside of my budget and is not aspirational or the styles are not appropriate for real life.

I wish I could care more, but most times I don’t notice what others are wearing so I don’t notice fashion/trends going in or out/shoes not going with a certain outfit, etc. Sometimes I’ll hear people say stuff like “why did that person wear those shoes with that outfit” and I can remember neither the outfit nor the shoes, and then I wonder what I was looking at all.

Most of the links provided in this forum look to have been provided by people who know little if anything about fashion.

I don't like most links posted on this forum, because they appear to be very "DC bland". The goal is apparently to blend into an invisible group of tasteful, un-objectionable ladies of a certain age . Apparently I have more, er, colorful tastes. And that's OK. What's important is feeling CONFIDENT, and what makes an individual confident will depend on the individual in question. I just have the nagging feeling that some of these posters are just missing fun stuff just because they're not daring to go there. And they might regret it.

You can let that worry go. They’ll never regret it.
