OP here. I got lucky in that my ex’s former partner also loves bags but didn’t have the access I had to get so many.
The way I had somewhat serendipitous access was that I had a friend I actually made online, in a bag forum on an old website that had message boards. She regularly flew to the city for her treatments. One day we met in person and had lunch and she sort of took me under her wing and took me to the boutique. She introduced me to her SA. Then it became a thing we did 2x a year for a while.
The SA and I got along very well and she turned into a local friend in a sense. She also had a sideline where she’d drive to where I lived and sell me bags in person that her other clients wanted to sell for cash. I never turned her in for that, which I guess I could have, and I stayed her client. So some bags I had for new at the boutique, but a lot at a significant discount. I lasted long enough to be able to put in special orders.
A few other bags I eventually got from a well known e-retailer and they usually charged 10K per standard bag. Not exotic etc.
I got lucky again yesterday in that I happened to know someone I hadn’t seen in years but who really wanted to see what I had. She and her husband still keep a pied a terre in the city and they both came out and we dragged out boxes and boxes from the closet I rarely dress out of anymore, anyway. He brought the thick envelopes full of 100s (20K). But his wife kept choosing more bags and asking what else I had, and as we agreed on quick prices he wrote out a personal check for the rest.
