The biggest issue these kids face is lack of parent involvement. It’s the literal number 1 reason these kids fail. Their parents are working sometimes multiple jobs and they are often home alone for extended periods of time. School is simply not the priority. This will not change when their school changes-their family stays the same. I work in a MS in the Gaithersburg district.

I really think alot of Wootton parents are oblivious to the low performing students that your kids are already exposed to....guess what...you don't know about them because your kid keeps their head down and works hard....that will not change

Can you post a link to the plan that proposes adding 1000 Gaithersburg students + all of Wootton to Crown?

There is no link for adding the 1000 students yet but that was discussed by one of the school board members at a local HOS meeting last night. That being said just look up option H and you will see Rosemont Elementary is listed as being part of the plan. That’s a Gaithersburg HS feeder elementary. Then the plan is to increase from there. But it doesn’t matter, even the one school being in the plan will cause the problems.

So Wootton is so high and mighty that a poor school cannot join them? GTFO.

I really hope Fields Rd, Rosemont and maybe part of Brown Station also goes to Crown along with Wootton. They deserve a good learning environment too.

Maybe Wootton isn't such a great school after all, if all it takes to ruin it is a few hundred kids from a lower middle-class school. If you can't stomach your kids attending school with kids from $700,000 townhomes, I don't know what to tell you.

I'm laughing at someone in a 700K townhome being called "lower middle-class." Even in our HCOL area, that's pretty laughable.

PP here, and I know. It's just that the ES boundary in question has a high FARMS % but also the part of it that would be zoned for Crown in Option H contains those expensive townhomes.

But it’s not just the whole school. you understand that right?

Of course I understand that - it is the whole school - with some adjustments and some added kids from Gaithersburg or QO or whatever else makes sense geographically - WHO CARES?! - keep the programming the same as far as courses, AOIT, etc and your kid can continue to keep their head down and work hard. I am not concerned for my kids and you should not be either.

I don't think that, but I also don't think the high-achieving students' test scores will go town just by having a few more poor kids in their building.

Wootton parent here and PP does not speak for the majority of parents. That was a disgusting comment and frankly I think they don't realize that Wootton kids already come from many backgrounds socioeconomically etc. Our school has plenty of "problems" already. The same way her kid avoids them at Wootton they can avoid them at Crown. Except now they will actually have working heat and clean updated bathrooms that are not in the middle of the hallway.
