On spring break I went to a resort that had a limit, 1 hour, I think. If your stuff didn't move in an hour, they would take your stuff and open up the chairs. They didn't have a pay to play option. I didn't really like that way either, but I did see a family come and just take someone's chairs next to us. I thought it was obnoxious, and the "owner" of those chairs was really mad when he came back. I would not want that kind of confrontation on vacation.

I need 4 chairs, and I'd like to sleep in.

Life is full of choices.

You don’t actually need 4 chairs if your kids are little. And if they’re not little, they are old enough to take a turn waking up early to do the towels so you don’t have to every day.

I don't have it in me to compete with other people when I'm supposed to be relaxing.

I've found that I don't like sitting at a pool (even poolside view) with gross obnoxious people anyway. I'm fine with just getting a towel, putting my stuff neatly out of the way in a dry corner, swimming, then getting my towel and walking around a bit and leaving. I don't like lying around. But this was at a place where I could then head to the beach or something.

It would be absolutely worth it to me. Peace of mind and anything to add to relaxation is worth $150 when you're already spending so much.

Particularly since the op has been to the resort before.

Atlantis or Baha Mar (mega resorts crowded with people…a million times worse than a cruise…where people fight for chairs).

Op, 40$ per chair is on the high end for busy resorts. You made it seem like it’s 150$ per chair. It’s expensive but not unheard of in expensive places.

It's per day for 4 chairs.

Unfortunately, I like bigger resorts with lots of dining option on site so I don't have to leave if I don't want to. Along with this, comes lots of families with kids.

If you are going to Atlantis or Baha Mar, good luck.

I've been before, so I know what I'm getting into. I just find it annoying that I have to do this.
