I think there must be an element of gifting as love language, liking surprises, etc.
I buy what I want all year. So does he. It mystifies me that him buying it is more thoughtful.
Once he bought me a spa certificate for a place I go 2x a year. It was silly. I handed over the certificate. Instead of just paying like I always do from our money.
Now I just make sure I have a few things to open on Christmas, and I do a stocking for myself. Leading up to Christmas any lip balms or toothbrushes or gloves or special chocolate or things like that- I just save to put in my stocking.
It's all quite ridiculous I guess
