“Overdone?”

Jesus. She wants just a quick and easy trip.

Let me guess, you think you are a “traveler” and not a “tourist” and eschew the attractions for which popular destinations are famous while loudly seeking out “off the beaten track” things because you confuse yourself with being a local.

The OP said she is going to Dublin on page 2. End this thread.

Maybe Puerto Rico or somewhere in Canada?

I would go to Tucson! The sun, the cacti, Saguaro National Park.

I grew up in Wisconsin and found Montreal and Quebec to be way too cold in November. Imagine that January might be worse.

It was around 5 degrees with freezing rain in Montreal this week. Definitely not a place to go in the dead of winter.

The OP ignored all the suggestions and going to Dublin. Ha ha.

Just go to Club Med, OP. Do an all inclusive in the Caribbean. Make it easy on yourself.

PP said long weekend, not an 8 hour layover.

What do you mean? There is a direct flight from DC. Why would it be any worse suggestion than OP’s stated Paris or Iceland. Try to think harder.

Oh sweetie, we know you've never been to any of these locations!!

Dh and I went to New Orleans in January. Recommend. Weather should be fine, and there will be some (pre) Mardi Gras activity

I’d say Puerto Rico — will be warm, easy flight, don’t waste on customs lines etc. or maybe even Cancun — anyplace I could get a decent flight and someplace nice to stay that is less than an hour from the airport. Go snorkeling, have some nice dinners, relax.

I might just also do Ny and spend the money on restaurants instead of flights. Or New Orleans.

+1. Agree. Even if you fly redeye to Paris Thursday night you’re going to be feeling rotten Friday and then you’ll have just 2 full days before you turn right around again.

I would do something shorter and less taxing in terms of jet lag. Puerto Rico, Cancun area, Mexico City all have direct flights from the Dc area. Montreal is also fun (albeit freezing) this time of year.

It’s no big deal. I’ve gone to Dublin from DC for as short as one night and still had a great time.
