A 26 son creeping into your bedroom? Then claiming he needed food?
He was looking to grab jewelry.

Why don't you tell him that you are broke and can't help him anymore? And be firm. If he doesn't make enough to pay for food, then he should apply for SNAP or go to a food kitchen. It sounds like you need to take an unyielding approach, or this will never end.

18 million. Girl, I read the list of food you gave him and you should really have better food at your house with that kind of net worth.

Also, get an alarm system so he's not creeping around.

Right?? I am not wealthy and that list of food made me go :o. Also this 26 year old sounds like he has terrible problem solving skills.

You are rich too. Why not just buy both your kids a used car? You can just easily go to Carmax (not the best deals, but no hassle) and get them a 20k car each and call it a day. Stop wasting energy on the ex. You need to reframe worrying so much about your ex and how silly he is being with his money which is none of your business and focus on what you do with your own money which is not optimal now at all (bemoaning ex not helping as you are not helping, the terrible box of food...).

You provide what food you can. Let me and the other child figure out the next steps for replacing their cars.

Don’t concern yourself with your ex and his budget. It’s pointless.

Plus both children are working adults - let them triage

Don’t car rental places rent cars by the month? Or could he buy a beater to tide him over for a few months? I cannot imagine spending $140 for Uber every day.

Enterprise rents a month for $800.

^^and 5 days at $140/day is already $700. This makes no sense.

Or just Uber to a point where he can access mass transit. Or even moving into a nearby hotel with longterm rates for a month would be cheaper.

Op and her son are morons. The only smart one is the ex who seems to have removed himself from them and is living his best life.

Do you know how many ER nurses I've met who have diverted drugs? It's the easiest place to do it. In all the hospitals I've worked at, we only get drug tested upon hire or if someone thinks you're high at work. I've unfortunately known quite a few nurses with various addictions.

Your kid needs some help with a budget. Not that uncommon that someone starting out and that came from money doesn't know how to budget well. I know I didn't. Sit them down and go through their fixed monthly expenses like rent, utilities, food/necessities from the grocery store, phone bill, Internet etc. Then go into the category of high wants but not needs: going out budget, take out, gym. Then go into the budget of low wants. From there, see how his monthly income fits into it. Is he saving enough? Does he need to adjust his budget for the wants?

You're making your ex out to be a villain for not buying him a new car. And yet you have money so what does that make you for not buying him a new car?

The great thing about being a nurse is you can pick up shifts to cover expenses. I'm flying out first class to see my friend in France and my entire flight was covered by 1.5 shifts. I cover all DS' Christmas gifts by picking up an 8 hr shift. So if your son truly cannot afford food, he should be picking up 1-2 shifts a week, every week.

Your son works full-time as an ER nurse? Yet he cannot afford a car and food? As others have pointed out, something else is going on. (Maybe you are delusional? Maybe you are trolling? Maybe he is a drug addict? Who knows. I wish you peace.)

I believe that your 26 year old is struggling financially. I just don't understand the rant about your ex and begrudging him vacations though. You just sound extremely jealous. Has your son asked your ex for financial help and he was refused? And what's with saying "we" are worth $18m? You are divorced. And if you have $9 million (half the estate) then go ahead and help your son buy a car!

The son is on drugs. His friends drove him to your house in the night to get food? That makes no sense.
