Why do you think it is so bad to be old?

It’s not bad to be old.

It’s bad to be treated “less than” because of your age.

OP wasn’t treated “less than”.

Of course she was!

If she was, she didn't describe how. Being called old in and of itself isn't being treated "less than."

The comment was mildly offensive and annoying but not anything I would get worked up about at all. He said it, you let him know you were offended, he apologized. I’d move on.

Only if you think “old” is a put down, which it’s not.

You might want to reflect on why you think “old” is an insult.

In the manner it was spoken, of course it was.

You’re being ridiculous. Talk about tedious!

What “manner”? Based on what OP described, I definitely wouldn’t have taken it as an insult.

I think the follow-up comment of "you look good for your age" was worse than the original honestly.

No, it’s her own internalized struggle with being an older women.

The kid probably just hangs out with people with a sense of humor and needs to learn how to code switch for old, humorless people at work.

Just stop.

If you are finding “general contempt for women” everywhere you go then it sounds like a you issue.

Your comments show contempt for people. Work on yourself.

I have contempt for people who constantly manufacture grievances.

Yeah, it just gets tedious.

It's late. Go to bed. Stop calling your coworkers old. Be a better person.

Good night.

I don’t. I’m older than most of them. I call myself old which is accurate and not an insult.

Oh that's why you are struggling...you are old.

The previous poster did not mention contempt for women. What are you talking about?

Look at the earlier quotes.

Which likely came from someone else. A different poster probably said stop to the immature poster trying to start something with the humorless line.

Seems like you’re having trouble following. Maybe ask one of the “kids” from work for help.

Maybe I can help since I'm under 40. On this site many people make comments and you can't tell who said what. You think you are insulting a different poster than you are.

Hope that helps. I know technology can be hard.

I was obviously referencing the earlier comment, which is why I used quote marks. Sorry reading is so tough for some.

You replied to a different comment so that ends up being what you reference in your reply. If you want to reply to the contempt comment, try scrolling to that one and replying there.
Just like how I reply to your comment to explain how it works instead of some other comment. Do you understand now? I know it can be confusing.

People who aren’t totally fvking idiots can follow simple, recent references within a thread. Sorry you’re still struggling.

I’m getting a sense of what people in your office call you.

I'm guessing the pp is called "boss".

Op, you are right-that comment was unacceptable and inappropriate. His reaction was also inappropriate. I'm sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately we live in a very ageist society as many of the comments here show.

I hope your coworker spent some time later reflecting on his rude behavior and changes.
