The idea that diversity, equity and inclusion perpetuates racial divisions is itself stunningly obnoxious and racist.

PP is right that there is evidence DEI trainings result in increased prejudice in the trained populations. Whether or not you find us noticing “obnoxious and racist.”

That’s like saying there were fewer mental health issues back when there was a huge stigma around it.

The training gives people awareness and language to call out prejudice.

DEI training is a good thing.

There is a reason Alabama and Oklahoma are looked down upon.

I read that paper. It was something like what a fifth grader would write. There is a theory she did it deliberately to play poor put-upon Christian victim.

She didn’t even cite the Bible. She just said something about the Bible says there are only two genders (which it does not, but I digress.)

That paper she wrote was so bad and honestly it makes Oklahoma look bad. How did she make it to Junior year writing like that?

Her mom is a conservative talk radio host. It's easy to write a bad paper, throw in some half baked Christianity, and claim discrimination when you get the grade you deserve. It's a con. How well she can write normally doesn't matter.

But the TA gave the student a 0 because they were throwing a fit. Guarantee the passing and even B range grades were no better, in citation or writing quality.

I think the zero came because they didn’t talk about the article much. It wasn’t even about trans people. Apparently the assignment was to respond to a journal article about the connection between gender roles and mental health.

Seems like it could easily be spun off to operate independently.

I’m not surprised, the ERGs at my federal contractor employer were disbanded. I think academia has their head in the sand in terms of what the Trump administration considers DEI. I assume similar things will be cancelled at other universities.

I’d want to know a LOT more about this decision than I trust Politico to report.

It’s not about prohibiting free speech - it’s about finding inequality. The papers can continue. It’s the federal funding to the school, which, in turn, funds these papers that is the problem.

Yeah, but while the federal gov’t does not have to provide funding in the first place, if it does so, it can’t provide such funds on a viewpoint discriminatory basis. I.e. we will fund schools/ publications but not if they are pro-free trade or anti-abortion or whatever.
