I am an office worker myself but I am not an idiot like Ben Shapiro to assume that everyone in America has my kind of job.

Put Ben Shapiro to work in the fields or in construction and we will see how long he lasts.

I am also an office worker. Based on what I see around the office, I’m not sure that 65 year old office workers are necessarily in much better of a position. In the private sector, they tend to get weeded out starting in their 50s and not hired back. Decline is real.

It's easy to say this when you are wealthy, have a cushy white collar job.

My dad had to quit his blue collar job at 62. His body had given up.

Great. I’d love a second career. Unfortunately, the people that advocate working forever are the same ones who seem to think that “the market” rules. The market isn’t enthusiastically hiring older people. There’s already a mismatch between Medicare and Social Security age qualifications, which truly sucks if you need both health insurance and a job — and want to avoid penalties. I have no idea who Ben Shapiro is, but if makes it his mission to support and provide employment for older adults who can —and want to — work, that would be a worthwhile endeavor.

The pro Israeli crowd pays for the ranking. Anything to get propaganda out.

Not sure what you mean. You can start getting benefits at 62. I know a lot of folks (like me) that FIREd in their 50’s. Others need or want to work until their 70’s.

Not in my experience... I'm a lot younger than you, but I know plenty of middle aged folks in your spot who have had no problem getting new jobs.

Are you able to share some examples? I know only a handful of folks landing their jobs in late 50s/early 60s and nearly all of them have a high degree of expertise in a specific area or are CEOs with companies wanting them to clean up, etc. Most of the other folks I know are having challenges landing a new gig.

What do your ILs do for work?

Yes, many folks still work, but there are others who may be able to get by on Social Security at 65 and their bodies will no longer allow them to stand on their feet for 8-12 hour shifts.

Again, many folks still work, but that should not be our aspiration as a society.

"Just move if you can't afford to live there" is such a complete idiot take. Every local economy depends on a wide range of things, some of which are not high-paying jobs. Does he think the garbage collectors and grocery stockers and everyone else working can just vanish and have the cities only be full of rich elites like himself? How absolutely f'ing stupid. It astounds me that so many people on the right still think Ben Shapiro is intelligent. He isn't. He is only good at memorizing talking points and jackhammering people with them, it's always been theater and grift with him.

That's where we are headed as a country. Working until 80. Everyone in my family works a labor job where their bodies are broken by 65 yrs old and have to retire.

Shapiro talks for a living, he just bables for a job and has an audience. He is never worked a real job in his life and doesnt understand lots of people work labor jobs and we need to have a country that allows retirement at 65.

My brother is a farmer. He had an off farm job at a plant which processed agricultural products. Eventually he had a pretty easy job physically, working in a control room where he mostly dealt with production software. But his knees were shot by age 63 from climbing up and down tractors and combines and although he hasn't smoked except a brief period in his early 20s he's prone to breathing problems from years of exposure to forms of dust on the farm.
