That's not for you to determine.
I would also not leave a note if I saw no damage. Unfortunately some people out there would take advantage of the situation and claim damage that wasn’t there or wasn’t my fault.
How do you know there is no damage? I was rear ended in DC. WE both stopped, the guy was apologetic. My bumper looked totally fine. I took it to the shop and sure enough it had to be replaced. I saw the damage once they took the bumper off. You are not able to assess the damage in 3 seconds and determine it's nothing.
You mean the guy who makes money replacing bumpers told you it needed replacing? You don’t say!

That’s unlikely to happen in a parking lot

I chased her down the street barefoot and in my sports bra, and got her license plate and called the police. She came back twice to drive by and look at my car for damage. Then she came back and stayed and by that time the police had arrived. She had insurance but I think panicked.
At any rate, the damage (not extremely evident but you could tell) came to $5270. I had a rental for four weeks until the part came in and the repairs could be done. I was PISSED as hell. Inconvenient and she should have stopped right then and there.
Very hard to then teach my class as I could see what was transpiring outside.

Always do the right thing. People are watching.
