Just like the US government which has been charging Brits for tourist visas for years.

Sure, that is also a scam fee. As is the new fee for foreign entry to national parks. No argument from me.

Thank you to those who were helpful, and for those who think I'm a yokel, whatever.

Glad you got it sorted OP. As a general rule when things are on government websites they are normally not a scam.

Well, except in the USA.

My guess is that President Trump will lean in and get us an exemption.

To be fair, these types of things are often surrounded by some sort of scam where somebody offers a "service" to get it for you and add on a $50 "expedited fee" or similar. Often if you google it those sponsored links show up above the official link.

It's still not a scam.

Agreed, but if you see a bunch of these scammer links when you search, trying to get your attention away from the official site, it's understandable why it might give you pause.

This- everyone beating up OP on not being sophisticated to know this! Meanwhile tons of scammers. Of course OP is cautious. And felt like this is a safe place to ask. Good job guys.

This is required for all UK visitors from visa exempt countries, including the EU and Canada. The US has not been singled out in any way, and your privileges are the same. You just have to do a short online form and pay a small fee now.

Just make sure you go to the official site. There are scam services that will charge a fee to do the application, which is totally unnecessary since it is a 5 minute process at most.

This. Make sure you go to the official uk.gov site.

Do it directly and don’t be fooled by 3rd party sites trying to charge more.

Was in London a month ago. We needed it. We just downloaded the app and I filled it out for each of us. Took hardly any time at all. You will need photos of yourselves and of your passports.
