But suspect this formula is different for different schools.

GPA is 4.67 weighted.

gpa is low for Churchill. so even if sat is high this can be between target and reach.

Her scores were the weakest link (1400) so she went TO. Rejected. Her guidance counselor said despite UMD’s TO policy, they really want to see scores. Your kid’s scores, grades, and coursework are great. Good luck!

It's because she's from a W school. TO at UMD is really for lower income kids.

EA or RD?

The 4.35 has to be in the context of the school system. In MoCo it's not a great GPA, because they weight almost every class 1.0, so it would mean either the UW is 3.5 or the kid didn't take a lot of rigor.

But go across the river to VA where they weight honors courses .5 instead of 1.0 and it looks a lot better. The admin office knows the details.

Regular decision Nova school.

There is no point in applying to UMD regular decision. They take the vast majority of their admits EA, and you'd need a much more impressive GPA to be the exception.

I think your child will get in- so a match. Several years ago, it would have been a safety.

The odds go down significantly regular decision. I assume they missed the EA deadline. The SAT is great but the GPA is low for UMD (crazy I know because that’s a great GPA). My son in-state with a weighted 4.4 didn’t bother to apply based on admissions from his HS last year. Of course VA schools weight GPA differently so it’s not apples to apples and I suspect admissions makes adjustments knowing this. I think it would be a 50/50 EA but for RD it’s a reach.

This. During our tour we heard they take almost 95% of their class EA.

If that’s true why even have regular admissions.

It's a toss up, your DC is a good candidate but can't count on it.

I’m an MCPS W parent and a UMD parent. My UMD senior had a 4.7 and 1490 SAT and was admitted but I’ve heard it’s tougher now. At our school, many kids were surprised to be rejected last year so it’s not a safety. But with those stats I’d say odds are reasonably good. I hope it works out!
